was a scene from a movie here at Western Hall for
game 26 of the 70th annual Macomb Western Holiday
Tournament. Pittsfield, the #4 seed, entered the
game off of a solid win against Liberty. While
Rockridge, seeded first, came into the contest
off of a victory over Monmouth-Roseville. The
Rockets, looking to 3-peat, kept the pressure on
and the intensity sky-high levels throughout.
They would eventually emerge the champion,
defeating Pittsfield 50-48.
Looking at the stat line of the game, the teams
were almost identical. [Stats listed with
Rockridge first] Rebounds: 24 to 23. FG
Percentage: 39.4 to 38.1 Turnovers: 14 to 13.
Assists: 5 to 6. Free throw percentage: 64.3 to
70.6 Standing out for Rockridge was 6 blocks to
Pittsfield's 0. Carson Frakes came up with 4 of
those 6. This, however, is countered by the 6
steals from Pittsfield that Rockridge only had
The Rockets also had 18 made freethrows to the
Saukee 12. Rockridge was lights out from beyond
the arc, or should I say, Gentry Whiteman was
lights out. He hit all 6 of his teams 3 balls, 12
Pittsfield did a fantastic job on transitioning
as well as finding open passing lanes and
utilizing the bounce pass.
Both team's superb defensive efforts in the first
half made it tough to get shots off until the 3rd
quarter of play.
Gentry Whiteman had 28 points in the win, 18 from
the long range shot and 6 from the stripe. He was
also able to rip down 4 rebounds defensively.
TJ Martens had 9 points and Carson Frakes had 11
Pittsfield's Quinn Leahy had 16 points, Noah
Mendenhall had 11, and Korbyn Personett had 8
rebounds and added 5 to his team's score.
