The West Hancock Titans made sure there would not be a repeat Macomb-Western Holiday Tournament champion as they blitzed the Pittsfield Saukees in the second quarter of their 50-30 first round victory Thursday night.

The 2016 champs received a tough assignment, facing the top seeded and undefeated Titans, but the Saukees showed some heart in the opening period, playing to just a 10-9 deficit. Jon Moore scored seven of his team high nine points in the first quarter as Pittsfield led for a majority of the time.

It was all West Hancock in the second, however. The Titans (12-0) made seven of their ten field goal attempts in the period, including a 3-for-3 effort by Riley Langford. West Hancock collected the first nine points on the quarter and sustained their momentum throughout the period for a 16-4 edge. By intermission, the Titans led 26-13.

Pittsfield (4-6) came out of the break ready to make a game of it. The Saukees climbed back to within nine points and two occasions in the third quarter. Unfortunately for Pittsfield, Riley Langford was not going to allow kind of dramatic comeback. The senior guard tallied 11 of his game high 24 points in the final stanza to keep the West Hancock lead in double figures.

Langford also recorded three steals and three rebounds, while Drake Hammel chipped in 12 points and four boards in the victory. West Hancock was called for only six fouls, and enjoyed an 18-3 advantage in points off turnovers.

West Hancock will play in the quarterfinals on Friday at 9:30 pm against the winner of Brown County and Illini West. Pittsfield will play the loser of that game at 2:30 pm.
