The Rockridge Rockets extended their stay in the Macomb-Western Holiday Tournament, taking a 45-29 decision over the Eureka Hornets to begin consolation bracket play Friday morning.

The Rockets (2-9) held Eureka (3-7) to 29 percent shooting (11-for-38) for the game, including an icy 1-for-15 effort from three-point territory. The second quarter had a slow start as five points total were scored for almost six minutes. Rockridge finally got in gear late to grab an 18-11 lead at intermission.

Eureka appeared to have the momentum to begin play in the 2nd half as baskets from Alex Brittain and Keegan Zimmerman pulled Eureka to within 18-15.

The two junior frontcourt players seemed determined to keep the Hornets close. They combined for 11 points in the third quarter and Eureka was only behind 29-24 with 2:30 remaining. That is when Rockridge took control, launching a 16-3 run to put the game out of reach.

Riley Fetterer keyed the Rockets attack, assisting on seven baskets, and scoring six points himself. Cody Bush and Dalton Wolf led the Rockets, who used only five players in the first half, in scoring with 12 points each.

Zimmerman and Brittain led Eureka with nine points. Brittain also grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.

Rockridge will once again play at 9:00 am in their next game, coming Saturday morning versus the winner of Jacksonville and Liberty.
