Canton advanced in consolation bracket play Friday afternoon 46-35 over Lewistown by forcing 22 Indian turnovers leading to a 16-5 edge in points scored off turnovers. The Little Giants never trailed against their Fulton County rivals despite shooting just 30 percent (15-for-50) from the field.

Canton (5-6) scored the first five points of the contest, but Zach Severns of Lewistown (4-5) drained two three-pointers to bring his club back to a tie score after one quarter (8-8).

It was a similar start to the second quarter with Canton again speeding ahead, but this time, Lewistown could not come all the way back before the horn, trailing 19-15 at intermission.

The Little Giants led at the half even though they made just 23 percent (7-for-31) of their field goal attempts.

Nathan Parker tried to lead a Lewistown comeback in the second half, scoring 11 of his 14 points after the break. However, the Indians never got closer than their halftime deficit of four points.

Parker connected on three field goals in the span of two minutes during the middle part of the fourth quarter. Each time, they cut the Canton lead to six points, but Lewistown could not avoid their first 0-2 mark holiday tournament play since 2013. Severns finished with 10 points for the Indians, while Ethan Mikulich pulled down eight rebounds leading a 33-29 Lewistown rebounding advantage.

Garrett Brant of Canton led all players in scoring with 15 points. He was one of three Little Giants with three steals or more, including Evan Otto (four) and Jake Smith (three). Canton will play the winner of Illini West and Pittsfield at 10:30 am Saturday at Brophy Hall on the campus of WIU.
