Jacksonville hadn’t played in the Macomb Western Holiday Tournament since 1983.  Their return to tournament play ended in a trophy as they won the Consolation Championship 28-25 over the Canton Little Giants.

In a game that was close from start to finish, Canton had an opportunity to tie it, down by three, with six seconds remaining.  The Little Giants looked to Jake Smith to take that final three.  And for good reason.  When Canton played this morning against Illini West, he sank the game-winning three with a few seconds remaining.  It was not to be this time, however, as the shot rimmed out and the Little Giants were eliminated.

Jacksonville was led in scoring by Drew Ezard, who scored nine points.  Ezard also tallied nine rebounds.  The Crimsons shot an icy 1-for-11 from the three-point line, but they made up for it by winning the battle in the paint 22 to 6.

Canton was led in scoring by the aforementioned Jake Smith, who had seven points.  Caleb Miller led the way with five assists.

Unforgiving rim alert!  Both teams combined to shoot 4-for-31 from behind the three-point line.

Jacksonville’s last trophy was a third place finish in 1981.
