The 2001 Class A Illinois preseason basketball poll rated Farmington #1 and Macomb #2.

To win the 56th Annual Macomb-Western Holiday Tournament, Lewistown defeated Farmington in the afternoon 59-53 and Macomb in the evening 58-54 for the Championship.

In the final 2002 AP Class A Illinois basketball rankings Lewistown was ranked #1 with a record of 25-2, Macomb was ranked #7 with a record of 20-5, and Farmington was ranked #8 with a record of 23-4.

In the 2002 Class A Boys Basketball Tournament Farmington advanced to the Elite Eight at Peoria by defeating Rock Falls 57-53 at the East Moline Super-Sectional. At Peoria they were defeated by Herrin 60-52. Farmington's final season record was 28-5. Macomb was defeated by Pleasant Plains 75-59 at the WIU Super-Sectional. Pleasant Plains went on to win the State Championship and finished with a record of 32-3.
