| Farmington's 57-40 win over
Western in the consolation bracket last
year ended a five-game losing streak for
the Farmers. It is their longest such
streak in the tournament since expanding
to 16 teams in 1969. Previously,
Farmington's longest losing streak was
two games which has happened on 3
separate occasions since they returned to
the tourney in 1991. Since their
tournament championship in 1997, the
Farmers have never finished better than
3rd place which they have done three
times: 2001, 2005 & 2006.
In trophy
games, Farmington boasts a 9-5 record.
Last
season marked the return of Farmington to
the Prairieland Conference. They were a
founding member of the league from 1982
until they departed in 1992 to join the
now defunct Olympic Conference.
Farmington's
56-42 loss to Monmouth-Roseville in the
2006 M-WHT semifinals was the only loss
the Farmers experienced until the Class
'A' State Semifinals.
That
2006-07 season ended with a loss to
Teutopolis, 51-38, in the 3rd place game
at the IHSA Class 'A' State Tournament in
Peoria.
A
championship run in the inaugural
tournament in 1946 meant Farmington was
able to keep a streak alive in which the
football team went unbeaten in 10 games
and the basketball team in 12 games.
Seth
Nelson took Tournament MVP honors in
1997.
After
winning the Macomb-Western Holiday
Tourney, the 1997-98 season concluded
with a trip to state where the Farmers
finished 3rd.
