Game 9 Recap: Brown County 46, Canton 45

This first game of the Consolation bracket certainly seemed like a 9am game in the early going.  The halftime score was a mere 18-11, led by Canton.  Things heated up in the second half, however, as both teams stepped up the scoring.  Brown County erupted for 35 second half points after only scrounging 11 in the first half.  They battle back and defeat Canton and the Hornets advance to play Saturday.

Brown County (6-5) shot an anemic 4-15 (27%) in the first two frames.  The second half was far different, as they shot 14-24 (58%).  Canton’s Little Giants (0-8) commanded most of this game.  They led for 22:28 and by as many as 10 points early in the third quarter.  Turnovers, rebounds, and free throws were as even as the final score.

Brown County’s Tate Fullerton scored his team’s last three deciding points, all coming from late free throws.  Canton’s Jackson Churchill nailed a three pointer with 8 seconds remaining to pull within one…but no other scoring would occur.

The Hornets were led by Nathan Hendricker’s 20 points on 8-16 shooting.  Also in double figures were Tate Fullerton (12 points) and Chance Fuqua (10 points).  Fuqua also had a game-high eight rebounds.  Hendricker added six boards of his own.  Gavin Miller’s fast hands swiped four steals.

Canton was led in scoring by Trey Passmore, who had 19 points.  A trio of Little Giants tied with a team-high five rebounds (Turner Plumer, Jake Smith, and Trey Passmore).  Smith also dished out a game-high four assists.  Canton had eight bench points to Brown County’s zero.

Brown County advances in the Consolation bracket to face the winner of Eureka and Camp Point Central.  They will play in Game 17 (tomorrow, 9:00am at WIU’s Brophy Hall).  Canton has been eliminated from the tournament.
