The Liberty Eagles (10-4) kicked off the early games in Western Hall with a victory over the Titans of Monmouth-Roseville (7-7). With that win, Liberty will play for a trophy tonight in the 5th place game. Balanced scoring by Liberty was the key to winning a physical game that saw a combined 39 personal fouls. This was a scrappy game that was highlighted by not only a lot of fouls — as mentioned — but also a tournament-high 49 combined turnovers. Liberty found a way to capitalize on those turnovers, as they converted 27 Titan turnovers into 27 points. Liberty also dominated the points in the paint by a total of 38-26. Monmouth-Roseville did have a better shooting percentage for the game (46% compared to Liberty’s 40%), but only took advantage of seven made free throws compared to 15 for the Eagles. Liberty had three double digit scorers in Landon Obert (19 points), Breiton Klingele (11 points), and Nolton Klingele (10 points). Jordan Neisen added another eight points. Breiton Klingele had a game-high eight rebounds and Nolton Klingele dished four assists and swiped four steals. The Titans were led by a pair who finished in double figures (Quincy Talivaa with 17 points, and Rashaun King with 11 points). Jacob Jones added eight points and also had a team-high seven rebounds. King’s five assists were a game-high. Connor Olson and King both had five assists each. Liberty advances to play Macomb in the 5th place game (tonight, 6:30pm).
