The Bombers shined in front of the hometown crowd as they snatched a 13 point victory at the hands of the Pittsfield Saukees in Game 6. After taking the second quarter 9 to 2, Macomb appeared to be on their way to a much larger win. However, Pittsfield outscored Macomb 17-7 in the final quarter to bring the score closer down the stretch and finish on a better note. This game was decided down low under the basket…where Macomb won the battles of points in the paint (30-18) and rebounds (25-17). Pittsfield did outscore Macomb off the bench by a tally of 10-4.
Macomb (11-3) was led in scoring by senior guard Connor Watson’s 18 points. Nolan Kerr was the only other Bomber in double figures, as he finished with 11. Kerr also had a game-high six rebounds. Watson’s five rebounds were runner-up for the team. Four different players finished with three steals: Watson, Jack Duncan, Langdon Allen, and Stephen Stufflebeam.
Pittsfield’s (5-5) leading scorer was non-starter Javan Petty, who finished with 10 points. Brennan Tomhave added eight points and a duo of Adam Musgrave and Konner Allen each contributed six points. Allen had a team-high five rebounds.
Macomb advances to the quarterfinal to face #2 seeded Southeastern in Wednesday’s 8:00pm Game 15. Pittsfield will need to fight their way through the consolation bracket, where they will matchup with Abingdon-Avon in Game 11, set to begin Wednesday at 1:00pm.
