The Abingdon-Avon Tornadoes defeated the Spartans of Bushnell-Prairie City in the consolation quarterfinals by a score of 62-23. A-Town dominated from start to finish and never trailed in this matchup. The Tornadoes also had a crushing 21-point run that ended with 2:33 left in the 1st half. BPC had a rough time from the floor, hitting just 10 of their 43 shots, facing a tough Tornadoes team. A-Town led by a score of 36-10 at the half on a very efficient 17-of-25 (68%) shooting. Most of those were points in the paint, where A-Town outscored BPC 50-16 from down low.
Abingdon-Avon was led in scoring by Ayden Stromson’s 16 points on a perfect 8-for-8 shooting. Jacob Hall had a game-high eight rebounds and four assists. Also with four assists was Drey Anderson. Anderson also led both teams with three steals. Teagan Hunter was second on the team in scoring with seven points off the bench.
Bushnell-Prairie City’s tournament return comes to an unfortunately abrupt ending, after facing the gauntlet of the tournament’s top seeded team (West Hancock) and a hungry A-Town squad. The Spartans previously participated in the tournament from 1965-2009…winning titles in 1975 and 1988. Broc Beekman led the team with seven points. Talan Love brought down six rebounds and dished two assists to lead the team in both categories.
A-Town (5-7) advances to the consolation semifinals and will play the Canton Little Giants in Game 18, Saturday morning at 10:30am in Brophy Hall. The Spartans have been eliminated from tournament action.
