Fourth seeded Macomb Bombers came out fast and went up 12-6 after the first quarter and 25-9 at the half. They would ultimately hang on for a big 58-30 victory over the Mercer County Golden Eagles. Turnovers were the story in this game as Mercer County gave up 15 turnovers to Macomb’s five. The Bombers would convert those into 25 points. The Golden Eagles did score seven straight points and shot 6/12 (50%) in the 3rd quarter.
Macomb was led in scoring by Drew Watson’s 17 points, including four field goals from beyond the 3-point line. Malachi Conley finished with 10 points and four steals (which led the game). The Bombers had two players (Nolan Hoge and Nick Elbe) who tied for the game-high in rebounds with six each. Langdon Lambert pulled down five boards as well. Braden Holthaus’s five assists led both teams. Macomb won the fast-break point total 9 to 1.
Mercer County’s Golden Eagles received a team-high 12 points from Holden Demuth on 5/6 field goals. Brady McPeek added nine points. Carson Boelens led MerCo with five rebounds. Demuth also dished out three assists.
Macomb moves on to play in the tournament semifinals in Game 22, Saturday at 1:30pm, against the winner of West Hancock/Eureka. Mercer County will face the loser of that same West Hancock/Eureka game in Game 20, played Saturday morning at 10:30am.
