The Titans of West Hancock were given the tournament’s top seed and if their first two games of the event are any indication, then they earned it. In the final quarterfinal of the night, the Titans knocked off the Eureka Hornets by a score of 56-42. The game was tied 10-10 after the first quarter came to an end. The second quarter was an entirely different animal, as West Hancock would outscore Eureka 22-6 in the second frame on the heels of 9/14 from the floor. The Hornets did outscore the Titans in the second half, but only by two points and it was not enough to overcome the lopsided second quarter.
The Titans were led in points, rebounds, and blocks by Cooper Knowles’s 15, eight, and six, respectively. Knowles also shot 7/8 from the field. Hunter Froman did match Knowles in points at 15 and they tied for a game-high. Siegfried joined them in double figures with 10 points of his own. Froman pulled down another six rebounds, and Siegfried led his team in steals with four.
The Hornets were led by Jacob Schulz’s 13 points off the bench (on 6/7 field goals). Grant Roberts, also off the bench, added in nine points. Schulz swiped four steals as well. Eureka’s bench outscored West Hancock’s bench by a count of 28-6. The 4th quarter was all Eureka, as they shot 8/12 and had a 14-point scoring run in the period.
West Hancock (10-2) advances to the tournament semifinal round, where they will play Macomb in Game 22, Saturday at 1:30pm. Eureka (5-6) falls to the 5th place bracket, where they will face Mercer County in game 20 at 10:30am.
