The first game of Day 3 turned out to be the closest, most competitive game thus far, as the Chargers of Illini West defeated the Titans of Monmouth-Roseville by a score of 48-43. This game featured six lead changes, three ties, and an early 2nd quarter 10 point lead was the largest for either team the entire back-and-forth contest. Each team played a clean game, with nine and 10 turnovers for the Titans and Chargers, respectively. The difference in the game was seen at the points converted from second chance shots, which Illini West won 10-3.
Illini West’s Wesley Robertson had an outstanding overall performance, finishing with 21 points, 10 rebounds, and a block. All were a game-high in each category. Tre Neiderman also had double-figures, earning 12 points and also five rebounds. Ethan Carlisle had a game-high six assists
Monmouth-Roseville had a duo of double-digit scorers in Clay Casteel (12 points) and Nick Huston’s 11 points. Lars Bergren added another seven points. Payton Thompson led the team with five rebounds. Casteel and Huston each had four assists, a team-high. The Titans did capitalize off turnovers by a score of 14-2.
The Chargers (10-4) advance to the 5th place game, Game 24, held at 5:30pm later today. The Titans (9-7) have been eliminated.
