Coach Chuck Grant’s return to head coaching at the Macomb-Western Holiday Tournament begins with a win as the Monmouth-Roseville Titans rode to victory over the Liberty Eagles by a score of 52-33. The Titans led wire-to-wire and led by as many as 30 points with 6:03 left in the final quarter. Points in the paint was the story in this one, as Monmouth-Roseville dominated the inside by a score of 40-18.
The Titans had two scorers in double figures as Lars Bergren had 20 points and Payton Thompson finished with 12. Nick Huston added eight points and Andy Myers pitched in seven as well. Ethan Clark had a team-high seven rebounds and Calogero Sarcomo and Thompson had game-highs in assists (four) and steals (five), respectively. Monmouth-Roseville scored an impressive 32 points off turnovers, compared to Liberty’s seven.
The Eagles also had two scorers finish in double figures: Jack Sparrow with 18 points and Reed Sparrow with 10. Jack Sparrow also led the game in rebounds, with 10. (An incredible seven of which were offensive rebounds.) Liberty outscored Monmouth-Roseville in second chance points, 8-6.
Monmouth-Roseville (9-5) advances to the quarterfinals to face the Chargers of Peoria Christian in Game 14, Friday at 5:30pm. Liberty (7-4) falls to the consolation bracket, where they will duel with Farmington at 10:30am Friday in Game 10.
