Day 2’s opening tilt saw the Hornets of Brown County defeat the Panthers of Camp Point Central by a score of 53-37. Each team brushed off the early morning jitters to shoot north of 48% from the floor. The Hornets led from wire-to-wire in this game.
Brown County was led in scoring and rebounding by Jackson McNeff’s 18 and seven, respectively. He also led the game in both categories. Drew Markert (eight points), Mayy Boylen (eight points), and Bradley Markert (seven points) each contributed in the scoring column. Drew Markert pulled down six rebounds and Carter Havens’s three assists led the Hornets. Brown County dominated the paint, outscoring Central 36-20.
Camp Point’s leading scorer was Kadin Niekamp’s 16 points. He and Elijah Genenbacher tied for the team-lead in rebounds with four. Kadin Niekamp and Genenbacher each swiped three steals. The Panthers closed out the 1st quarter on a 7-0 run, but were not able to convert it into long-term success in this one.
Brown County (8-3) advances to the consolation semifinals, where they will play the winner of the Farmington/Liberty game. The Hornets will next play Saturday morning at 9:00am. Note: That game will be played in Brophy Hall, which is just across the street from Western Hall. The Panthers (4-9) have been eliminated.
