In their first game of title defense in the 2024 Macomb-Western Holiday Tournament, the Rockridge Rockets led wire-to-wire in a dominant takedown of the Camp Point Central Panthers by a final score of 70-25. The Rockets had a complete and decisive victory across most facets, but this game was won by efficiency shooting from the floor. Rockridge shot 29/52 for 55.8% (including 8/17 from the 3-point arc), while the Panthers struggled and shot 10/40 for 25% from the floor. Rockridge also induced 21 turnovers and converted them into an impressive 29 points. Camp Point Central did have a 6-point run in the 3rd quarter, but the Rockets were too strong in this one.
Rockridge was led in scoring by Caleb Cunico’s 24 points off 9/13 shooting. Also scoring in double figures were defending MVP Landon Bull with 15 and Wade Richhart’s 11. Richhart had a game-high 8 rebounds and Landon Wheatley led the game with 3 assists. Cunico also led the game with 4 of his team’s 5 blocked shots.
Camp Point Central’s Elijah Genenbacher led the Panthers in points and rebounds with 8 and 6, respectively. Briggs Wiskirchen added 7 points. Tatum Eicken and Kruze Miles each grabbed 4 rebounds.
Rockridge (8-4) advances to the quarterfinals to face Illini West in Game 13, Friday afternoon at 4:00pm. Camp Point Central (4-8) falls to the consolation bracket to face Brown County in Friday’s first game (Game 9) at 9:00am.
