Coltin Quagliano’s triple double highlighted a 63-43 win for the Flying Geese of Wethersfield (7-4) over the Tigers of Illini Bluffs (2-10). Wethersfield started on their run early and jumped out to a 23-10 lead at the end of the first quarter and led the game wire-to-wire. This wasn’t the smoothest of affairs, however, as the teams combined to shoot 33% from the floor and gave up a combined 42 turnovers. This Consolation bracket quarterfinal was largely decided by rebounds and balanced scoring by both teams. There were a combined six players in double figure scoring. Wethersfield’s Quagliano amassed an impressive 19 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists, and seven steals. Also in double figures were Brady Kelley (15 points), Waylon Bryant (11 points), Tevin Baker (10 points), and Kale Nelson (10 points). Qualiano’s 10 assists are a tournament-high. Unfortunately, it wasn’t all good news as his nine turnovers are also a tournament-high. Illini Bluffs were led in scoring by Dalton Wills’s 11 points and Colton Teel’s 10 points. Hunter Greenleaf added eight points and Brody Wills pitched in seven points as well. Teel also had a team-high eight rebounds and seven assists. Bluffs shot 12-15 (80%) from the free throw line. The Wethersfield Flying Geese advance to the Consolation semifinals to face Lewistown in Game 18 (tomorrow, 10:30am in WIU’s Brophy Hall). Illini Bluffs has been eliminated from the tournament.
