Camp Point Central’s Panthers kicked off the 2021 edition of the Macomb-Western Holiday Tournament with a 65-52 victory over the Little Giants of Canton. Even though it was a 9:00am start, both teams played a physical – and close – first half. At the midpoint buzzer, the score was 26-25 in favor of Camp Pt Central. Very few fouls (or missed shots) in the first two frames. In fact, both teams combined to shoot 59% in the first half.
The second half was an entirely different story. The Panthers settled in and won the third quarter 22-16 and the fourth quarter 17-11. And while Camp Pt Central continued to shoot well in the 2nd half (65%)…they limited Canton to just 9-of-27 (33%) in the third and fourth quarters. The difference in this game was present in two categories: assists and steals. Camp Pt Central won both convincingly (19 to 9 and 12 to 6 respectively).
Camp Pt Central was led by a duo of 19 point scorers in Isaac Genenbacher and Nick Moore. Keaton Dickhut added 10 points and Breyhar Wiskirchen joined in with nine. Genenbacher had a game-high seven rebounds. Wiskirchen led the game with six assists.
Canton featured a balanced scoring attack. Leading the way was Kaden Otto’s 16 points, which included 5-of-7 from the free throw line. Turner Plumer hit double figures with 10 points, Trace Rhodes finished with nine, and Connor Willcoxen added seven points of his own. Plumer led the Little Giants in board with six.
Camp Pt Central advances to the quarterfinals in game 13 tomorrow at 5:00pm, playing the winner of Game 2. Canton moves into the consolation bracket’s Game 9 and will face the loser of Game 2. That game will take place tomorrow at 9:00am.
