Abingdon outscored West Hancock 9-2 in the fourth quarter to steal a close win 41-39. This low-scoring, sometimes frantic game was back-and-forth from beginning to end. The Titans appeared to have the game in hand, up by five at the end of the third quarter. And that doesn’t sound like much, but the defensive-minded teams only combined to score 21 points in that third quarter.
Tied 39-39 with 42 seconds remaining, Abingdon-Avon held the ball for a final shot. West Hancock’s Luke Jacquot blocked a Parker Stoneking jumper…but Drew Foutch was there with an offensive rebound and was fouled. He nailed both free throws with 1.5 seconds remaining. West Hancock set up a play and had a look, but lost the ball at midcourt as time ran out.
A-Town was led in scoring by Parker Stoneking’s 19 points, including 6-for-6 from the charity stripe. Easten Schisler added 16 points and a team-leading seven rebounds.
West Hancock didn’t have a double-digit scorer, but had a balanced attack led by Colin LeMaire’s nine, Isaac Siegfried’s seven, and Bryan Gerhardt’s seven. Luke Jacquot had a game-high 12 rebounds.
Abingdon-Avon advances to the consolation semifinal to face Monmouth-Roseville in Game 18. That game will be held at 10:30am at WIU’s Brophy Hall. West Hancock’s tournament has ended.
