In the second game at Western Hall, the Eagles of Liberty won a decisive game over the Tigers of Illini Bluffs by a score of 50-19. Liberty started strong, with a 20-7 score at the end of the first quarter. Liberty never trailed in the game and the final spread of 31 was the game’s largest.
This game’s narrative can be explained by the Eagles’ strong, scrappy defense. They forced Bluffs into 31 turnovers…due in part to Liberty’s 24 steals. Those turnovers were a killer, as Liberty scored 24 points off of those turnovers. It wasn’t all roses for Liberty, however. as they didn’t shoot as well (38%) as the rest of their game. Bluffs failed to score in the fourth quarter…but that was mainly explained by a running clock that lasted a majority of the final frame.
Liberty was led in scoring by Clayton’s Obert’s 14 (and a team-high six rebounds). Breiton Klingele also finished in double figures with 10 points.
Illini Bluffs’s leading scorer was Brandon Coats’ seven. Coats and Brandon Alvey tied with a team-high six rebounds. Impressively, Alvey also swatted six blocks.
Liberty advances to the second round’s Game 13 and will meet up with Camp Pt Central. The Tigers have entered the consolation bracket and will matchup with Canton in tomorrow’s 9:00am Game 9.
